Winter Coats for Toddlers

How much and where did you find your toddler's winter coat?  I was lucky enough to score a great deal on one last year from lands end but not having as much luck this year.  I hate to spend $50 for a coat that won't fit next year and it doesn't get terribly cold where we live in North Carolina.  TIA

Re: Winter Coats for Toddlers

  • Costco for $30. They also have fleece jackets for around $15 which are good for us until the mega-MI-cold ;)

  • I was going to say we got a great deal on Lands End and bought bigger do it works now - not sure it will work the entire season though. Try consignment stores.

  • We got DD's London Fog coat at Costco for $23.  We got her a 5T so she should be able to wear it for 2 years.

  • Costco is a good idea, but I swear by consignment stores for coats- they aren't so stiff and they are normally under 10 or under 20 for a nice Columbia one.
  • Old Navy has great sales going on right now for their coats.

  • I'm usually not a big WalMart fan, but love their 2-in-1 winter coats.  Its got a fleece that zips out to be its own coat or you can put the heavier winter coat on top. That way DD can wear both layers while playing outside, but its easy to slip off the outer layer and just leave her in the fleece for hopping in the car.  I want to say they are normally around $25, but I got hers on clearance last year.

  • We're on our 2nd year of DD's fleece lined Target jacket.  I think it was $20.  We lived in TN last winter (where it was way colder than usual!) and are in Seattle this year.  Layering is really best for kids this age because they can self-regulate when it still is hard for them to communicate verbally if they're too hot/too cold.  Last winter when we went skiing or to play in snow we'd do a waterproof jacket with a wool sweater and long underwear underneath.  Not simple enough for every day, but she was plenty warm in the snow.

  • ebay! I got DS's Landsend coat for $12...and found them in larger sizes at similar prices, so he's set until kindergarten.  I also found DD's  LLbean coat for $8.  Both were in great condition.

  • I got a (new with tags) coat from my niece that she never got to wear. It's a 3-in-1 coat like TCP has.

In the past DD's coats have been from Target and Old Navy.  I would be fully open to looking on ebay for a coat if I didn't have this one though.

  • Haven't worn them yet, but I got their girls coats from LL Bean last spring when they were on clearance, but bought bigger size. But the year before we lived in Northern VA and I bought them both 3 in 1 coats from Target. They were great and we ended up using them for 2 seasons. They cost about $25 each.
