So, my daughter tells me that she has a boyfriend. He is at the boys and girls club that she goes to after school. His name is Azari and he's in FIFTH GRADE.
Apparently, he told he she looks beautiful on their first day of school.
First, she told me her boyfriend is her friend "Jay-onn" (don't know how to spell this).
Then she said, "Actually, it's Azari."
She used to say she was going to marry the boys in her preschool-- Destin and Jake, two boys who she said she loved. One was her best friend, one was a little bit older and would state firmly, "I'm not going to marry you!"
So, I am very, very bothered now by the "I have a boyfriend in 5th grade." statement. I'm not sure if she's getting the attention she did at preschool in this after school program. I have never seen anything that makes me think she has done anything besides just hug her friends. Is this just normal boy-craziness? I remember chasing the boys to kiss them when I was at this age, but they were boys my age. (Of course, I never hung out with any older kids.) This is freaking me out a little in a way I never felt before at her old school.
Re: My 5 year old has a boyfriend?
I wouldn't be so bothered by the "boyfriend" thing because I think that's fairly normal. I WOULD be bothered by a 5th grade boyfriend.
Yeah, this. Even my 3-year-old talks about boyfriends and girlfriends and who she's going to marry. It being with a fifth grader skeevs me out a bit...
I agree my DD is boy crazy. She has a boyfriend and I think likes a couple boys at school. the fifth grader part is weird. Maybe tell the director of the program you would like them to keep an eye on it. Just be on the safe side
