*Goosh*

Hey when you were doing Weight Watchers, which meeting were you going to?  I'm really considering joining.  I have A LOT of weight to lose and want to get some "me time" once Audrey is on more of a schedule.  I'm just not sure I want to pay b/c I can get all of the information from my BFF who was on it for a long time.  Did you like having the accountability of going to a meeting or do you think you could have done fine on your own?  What sort of things helped you?

Re: *Goosh*

  • Hey!  I went right here in town, it was really convenient since it was like a mile from my house.  However, I wouldn't really suggest going to that one because I don't think I gained much from the meetings and I've been told that trying out a different place with another leader could help.  I've heard really good things about a leader named Heidi, who I think does meetings on Front St and Chenango Bridge.  Not trying to be mean about my leader (her name is Lois), I just didn't feel like it was useful info and that paying $10 to have someone weigh me was kind of silly.

I did like going because it meant a little me time and also because my SIL, and 2 other friends went too so it was a form of socialization, lol.  I think because my friends were there, it created accountability which was good for me.  Otherwise I think I would easily have said, "Ah, I'll just go next week..."  I do think it's expensive though!  When I did it, it was buy 1 month and you got a month free so that at least helped.   I guess maybe my advice would be to start out going to some meetings and getting a grip on tracking, gaining some support, ideas, etc, and then either switch to just online or just do it all on your own.  It is good that you have your BFF who sounds like she will be a good resource. And if you like the online aspect of tracking, there's always sparkpeople.com, which is a free version but very similar.

Personally, I wasn't great at tracking and I tend to fall into routines with eating the same stuff over and over (but you're better about that, just judging your meal planning posts!).  Another thing that was a little bit of a struggle for me was that because I was EP'ing, there was no way I could lose big numbers every week, which was better for my supply but hard as I watched other people lose larger amounts.  I think I lost 10 lbs in those 2 months, which really is not bad for 8 weeks, but you know how it is.  Just another thing to keep in mind.

Let me know if you have any other questions!  I think Wendy does WW too, so she might be a good resource.  I'm curious how things will go after #2 comes along, it's definitely not something that I would count out.

  • Thanks for the advice!  I might just utilize my BFF and have DH download an app on his Droid for me to use.  I know I used to have a link for a points calculator online, I'll have to see if Ihave it saved at home.  Now if I could just stop eating all. day. long.
