My brother works for CPS in our hometown. He just texted me that he is heading to next town over to do a removal of a newborn because he/she tested positive for cocaine at birth.
(Maybe it's just me, but any sad news about newborns effs me up. Maybe a little warning in the title for those of us who will inevitably be saddened by this?)
Not surprising I guess....just annoying that people do this. He had a case started on her over the summer when she tested positive (I guess at an OB appt?) and he told her he'd be back to take her baby if she didn't stop- she didn't care.

Its not just you.
Ever since I had a kid I am super, super sensitive to news stories about babies and kids. I don't want to be all, "Don't talk about that here!" but I don't go to news websites as to avoid those stories and its frustrating when I see them here. I think at the very least a warning would be appropriate.
It's way too common-- I see it in work all. the. time. Part of the reason I have had a very hard time with what has happened to us. How can those women not appreciate the gift they are given?

I agree. SO sad, but not shocking. I used to work with a lot of these kids as toddlers/preschoolers.....so sad
If there is proof or suspicion that the mother is on drugs, then yes.
So, so sad. Poor baby.
Sadly, this.
Ugh. Very depressing.

They don't let the baby go home from the hospital if they have drugs in their system.
There are some messed up people.
