TMI warning! Poop!

This is totally way gross, but I am trying to see if I'm alone out here!  For the past 2 or so months, I have had completely unsolid #2's.  Like I'm talking just liquid.  When I looked up the definition of diarrhea, it said it has to be numerous times a day.  For a while it was only my normal 2 times a day.  Then I had 2 episodes where I went like 10-15 times in a day.  I had called my OB the first time when I was on my 2nd day of going.  He said, drink lots of water, and take an immodium.  He told me to call back IF I was still going after the immodium.  Of course I ddin't want to take any meds, so I let it ride out and didn't go after that day more than my normal 2 times for a good month...but every time I would go...still liquid.  I had another recent episode, I went 15 times the other day and was so soar I had to use the babies cream!  I didn't call since it only lasted one day and there are NO associated cramps or pain.  I also knew he would just tell me to take the medicine and I hate immodium, it backs me up for DAYS....well, it's been a few days and although I am still all liquid, I only go about 2 to 3 times a day.  Is anyone else out there having the same thing?  I literally dont remember what its like to go regular anymore, and I'm starting to wonder if my baby is getting nutrients????  The good thing is that usually I go in the morning and then not until after work.......just curious.  Sorry for the TMI post and sorry it's long!

  • Ugh... I have the opposite problem.... freaking big hard fatties! lol tmi....

Have you tried the normal "binding" foods that are recommended for loose stools? I think bananas are one of them... try googling food for diarrhea.

But since things aren't really getting better, you do run the risk of getting dehydrated, so I'd try your OB's recommendation. Just start with a low dose and see how it goes. You can always stop and try something else if it seems like you are binding up too much.

I eat a banana for breakfast every morning and make sure I eat enough breads/rice for binding purposes.  I haven't had a salad in a while or other foods that wont "help me"

  • I'd either take the OB's advice or at least tell your OB you don't want to take the Immodium so he can recommend something else. Obviously he keeps recommending it because he feels it's the best course of action. Immodium is a safe pregnancy drug, whereas diarrhea can leave you (and baby) dehydrated causing all sorts of issues.

  • Malox has that effect on me BAD! I would be willing to guess that could be it.
  • I just called my OB office and spoke with the nurse there...she was very concerned and DEF thinks it's the maalox.....I feel defeated and a horrible soon to be mom. I was so stubborn and anti medication (well aside from maalox).....and all the while I probably did more harm then good and should have taken the heartburn pill the Dr said I could take if I needed.  Now I just pray that my daily maalox intake didn't do any harm to my baby.  It's amazing how you think you are doing the right thing and you wind up doing the complete opposite.  The nurse will call me back after speaking with my doctor to give me the lowest dose of heartburn meds so I can stop taking maalox.  I already threw the bottle out and chewed on a few tums instead.  Unfortunately the heartburn begins the minute even water enters my body.......And this has all been going on even with the BRAT diet....bad bad soon to be mommy :(
