We've chosen Evergreen hospital. We are currently in Bothell, but will be in our new home in DT Kirkland in about a month or so.
Just wondering what your experiences were? Did you take the Labor and Delivery class they have? We're planning on starting in January, (babe is due Late March)
Re: Anyone deliver or will be delivering at Evergreen?
I loved Evergreen and will likely have my second child there in the future [if they do VBAC's]. The classes were helpful - we did the series and the single lecture on interventions. I recommend it in part just to open the lines of communication. I had done a lot of reading on my own but it gave DH a chance to learn more and gave us time to talk about things on the way to and from class.
I did end up with a c-section [breech & low fluid] and stayed for two days - the nursing staff was stellar and all of the surgical staff in addition to my OB were great. I was very happy.
I did, and although I had an okay experience I don't know if I'd go there again if/when I get PG again. I'm thinking Overlake because there is a clinic that uses midwifery with the hospital and I know of a few friends who really liked their experiences there. If I recall Evergreen has one of the highest if not the highest c-section rate in the state...not that that happened to me but it does say a little something about the need to interfere potentially in the natural pattern of labor (or else why wouldn't every other hospital echo their stats?). Heard their mommy meet up classes are great.
My birth class I took was by Liz Chalmers called Birth Zone. She has classes out of her guest house in Redmond. There are usually 8-12 women/couples in the group. Our group still meets up outside of the class with our LO. It's been fun to see all the babies grow up.
This. I would be very careful about choosing your provider if you are delivering at Evergreen. Unfortunately, I don't have any recommendations. They just lost their midwives so your choices are even more limited.
Their parent-baby classes are excellent, but you don't have to have labored at Evergreen to attend.
I saw/see Dr. Hyde at Evergreen Women's Care.
Dr. Hyde delivered my niece! I was there and he was pretty cool. Very upbeat and friendly. My sister liked him a lot and wished he had been her OB.
Thanks ladies.
I see Dr. Chien with Evergreen Womens Health Center. She is in that little building right across from the maternity entrance at the hospital. I'll be sure to ask her about the C/S stats and what her thoughts are on it..
I can't find anything past 2009.
In 2009, out of 4080 births, 151 were via C/s (38%) at Evergreen.
At Overlake out of 4109 births, 1547 were via c/s (37.6%)
I delivered at Evergreen in July and had a great experience. I went med free and the mention of a c/s only came up once in the last 5 or so minutes of labor....but labor from the time my water broke to the time DD arrived was 23 hours and 45 minutes. At that point I wasn't surprised that the topic came up.
All of my nurses (I had a total of three) were awesome even though I was a complete grouch to two of them. Likewise, all of the doctors I saw (three, one of which was my OB) were supportive of my desire to not have meds/interventions. While I did have some interventions for DD to get here, I had time to think about them and am still completely comfortable with the decisions DH and I made. I didn't have a doula, but DH did a great job coaching. My OB was Dr. Fallah with A Women's Clinic at Evergreen and she was wonderful to work with throughout my pregnancy and delivery. Additionally, the nurses were wonderful to my parents in the waiting room the whole time. They kept them flush with snacks, drinks, and pillows/blankets overnight.
Like PP said, the classes were more helpful in starting conversations with DH.
The Center for Women's Health at Evergreen still has midwives that deliver at Evergreen: https://www.womenshealthcare.org/medicalstaffroot/nursemidwives/
I was just in there on Monday.
