Trouble TTC

Running= period like cramps?!?!

I started running last week (Monday) in hopes of doing a 5K in about 2 weeks.  I started Clomid on Tuesday (50mg/day and my highest dose to date) and finished yesterday.  Both yesterday and today while running I got horrible cramps...the kind I got with my period that would make me vomit but not quite that bad.  When I got home and sat/laid down they went away after maybe 20-30 minutes

Any idea what is going on?  I have no history of cysts and have only produced 1 follie eaach cycle.  I'll mention it on Tuesday at my monitoring appt, but just wanted to see if anyone else had this happen.

Re: Running= period like cramps?!?!

  • I don't run but I do work out a lot at the gym and have worked out while on clomid without any side effects like that. Don't know if that helps. Maybe it's just from running? Or maybe your body is responding to the clomid diferently.

  • I was a decently established jogger when I took clomid, but I never had that happen. The only time I could feel a heaviness in my abdomen was when I had multiple follicles on an inject cycle. I don't recall feeling anything when on clomid. Definitely not period like cramps. You may want to call your doc just to be sure everything is OK. Good luck!

  • I often get cramps with running, even before Clomid. Your GI system can get a little overstimulated with running, especially if you just started. It can feel just like period cramps, and like you describe, goes away pretty soon after stopping.

    I actually never had any discomfort with Clomid, the real bloating/heaviness came with injectables. But it wasn't a cramping feeling.

    So the GI upset could cause period like cramps?

    I have IBS and it feels very similar to period cramps, so it's possible.  Definitely bring it up to your doctor though.

  • Oh kdg, good for you for running! I used to be a runner. Just for fun within the last year. Before that I did half marathons. But my dr and nurses were emphatic about me not running while on medicated cycles. I know my clinic is overly cautious, but enlarged ovaries/follicles make your body get odd sensations. I'm allowed brisk walking and light Elliptical. I can life light weights at the gym. I haven't been to the gym since aug 28 because a light work out (walking for 20 min, lifting weights for 20 min) made my stomach/ abdomen cramp so bad. It felt very much like period cramps, and then a tight pinching that freaked me the eff out. I told my dr and he said your body will tell you it's new limits on the medicated cycles, it is your responsibility to listen. :-( I didn't like hearing that, but I keep reminding myself its only temporary.

    Well crap.  I didn't even think about that when I started running.  I was fine all week until yesterday and today I was able to run longer before they started.  I'm not going fast, hell even quick, by any means.  UGH.  If it is like this on Clomid WTF would it be like on injects next month if needed?!?!?!  UGH.  Thanks Robin--I'll certainly mention it to my nurse on Tuesday

  • I am doing the same thing with 2 weeks to get ready. Maybe it is from pushing yourself? Def worth a mention to the RE. He may tell you to take it easy since you are cycling. I know that your ovaries swell when on meds, so it could be that. I hope you can keep up the running!
