Baron/Barron

What is the correct spelling, Baron or Barron?  I've seen it both ways, and I can't figure out which one is the right way.

Re: Baron/Barron

  • As in nobility? I believe Baron is correct.

  • Baron is the correct form of British nobility, I think Barron is the alternate spelling. I can't believe anyone would name a child that though.

This.  Donald Trump's youngest son is named Barron,  which shows you how douchey naming your kid that would be.  And on top of the whole pretentious factor, it also reminds me of like, a "barren" womb.

That is what I told my husband but he really likes it, and I'll admit it has been growing on me.  I'm not too concerned about the meaning, I like how it sounds and we have been struggling with a name we both like.  I like very classic names, but we have the most common last name in the US so Charles, William and John won't do.  I think it's better than most of the made-up names my friends have for their kids.

  • Aw man, always the husbands who have to throw the wrench into things!  My husband a few years ago told me he really liked the dreaded "Nevaeh" and that ended really quickly when I told him "good luck getting your future daughter off the pole."  He's evolved much more in the name department since then.

I agree that Barron is better than the trendy made up names, and we have the same issue of having a really common last name and liking classic names.  We aren't TTC for another year or so, but we've had the same issues when talking about future names.  Good luck!

  • either way it's pretty pretentious to me.

This made me LOL!  At this point, we might have to stare at the baby for 2 days in the hospital before we agree on anything.  Siiiiiiigh.

  • My son is named Baron. We chose the "one r" spelling, because that is what we saw in the books/seemed more traditional. I love his name, we're constantly complimented on it, plus he's not another William or Jacob.

  • I love the name Baron, with one r. Unfortunately my husband had a rottweiler named Baron when we met, so that is off the list...

There are a lot more classic names out there than just Charles, William, and John.  Try this blog post from Nameberry for some ideas that aren't so common but still classic.

  • Baron, at least that's the correct spelling in my family. I have my grandfather's brother is Baron, and his other brother is Kimber. Seriously cool name, too bad he was a jerk.
  • I like it and know a Baron. Use it.
