spinal?

I wanted to know if you actually feel the spinal administered or just the local before? and what does it feel like? also how long does it take to be given?I have heard that some felt nothing and others say bee sting like....

Re: spinal?

  • When I had a spinal, it felt like a little sting... nothing major. It did not take long at all... a few seconds maybe to be administered. Right after, my bottom started to feel warm and then the warmth moved down my legs.

  • Mine caused shooting pain down the left side of my body.  Imo, this means it was not administered properly, and needs to be redone.  I didn't get numb.
  • I don't remember feeling anything.  It didn't take very long at all.

This, several times. I found it to be very upsetting, I remember crying and not feeling happy about the experience AT ALL.  I am already nervous about having it done again, I plan to ask if they can give me something to help me relax first.  Just thinking about it makes me want to wiggle around to get it out of my head.

  • The local is the bee sting.  Its lidocaine and hurts like a b1tch!  The spinal itself felt like someone pushing their knuckle into my backbone.  It didn't burn or hurt exactly but it didn't feel good either, especially considering they keep telling you to tell them if it hurts.  You get really on edge at that point!

  • I didn't feel the spinal, just the local before.  I waited and waited and winced because I was terrified of the spinal.  Then the anesthesiologist told me to lay back and I was like "Why, what's wrong?  You can't give me the spinal? What happend??"  Everyone laughed so I figured out it had already been administered  :)

  • I have a herniated disc, so my experience was a little different. They had a difficult time administering my spinal because of my disc herniation....It took 4 attempts. This is definitley not the norm though, so I think you will just feel a little pinch from the local and the spinal won't feel like anything. Even with the issues I had, it wasn't pain I was feeling during the failed attempts, it was more of a strange sensation in my back. Good luck!
