more random stuff for friday night- muscle twitches

Just wondering if I'm a freak...

At any given moment during the day I almost ALWAYS have a muscle twitching somewhere on my body.  A very small area, and a lot of the time it's only once or twice.  It's completely random, and can be anywhere from my leg to my back or neck.

Does anyone else get these all the time too?

And I sometimes get them reoccurring in the same spot.  recently?  Very low on my abdomen, near my panty line, and it's feels freakishly like early baby kicks.  I really wish that one would stop.

  • Not all the time, not even every day.  But yes, I get muscle twitches/spasms fairly often.

I get them a lot in my belly area and they do feel just like baby kicks.  So much that every time someone says they feel their baby kicking really early on, I wonder if they are just having a little muscle spasm.

  • I get them around my eyes/eyebrows when I'm super stressed out or tired.  I think I heard they can also be caused by dehydration and vitamin deficiencies but I might just be making that up.

I've never had them in my abdomen like that.  I can see how that would be rough :(

Really?  Because now that I think about it, I haven't had them at all lately.  And I've been eating a lot of bananas in the last few weeks.

Of course I probably just jinxed myself and will be all twitchy tomorrow.

  • I think when I looked it up last time, you'd need 6 bananas a day if that was your only source of Potassium? Magnesium is hard for your body to get and keep a hold of. And not to imply that you drink too much (or that anyone does) but alcohol strips magnesium from your body like nobody's business. Luckily for this time of year - Pumpkin Seeds are a good source!

  • I get them too. My eyelids do it, my knee sometimes, and deep in my stomach, particularly if I ate something cold. Interesting that it's a vitamin deficiency... I'm sure I could use more mag, but I haven't been able to figure out a way to retain it yet. My stomach has been getting worse again, but even when it was better, magnesium cleans me out. This post makes me realize I need to get serious with my nutrition again. Sigh.
  • OMG, yes. I get them so much and in so many random places it is freakish. Like, my tongue twitched for five days one time :/ I've had this issue since I was in high school. Doctors are stumped and nothing has helped, so they just wrote me a prescription for valium for when they keep me up at night (luckily that doesn't happen too often). I notice they are the worst when I am stressed. I remember my shoulder blade twitched for TWO MONTHS leading up to my wedding, and then stopped on our honeymoon. Same thing happened before I took the PE exam (only it was my lower back).

  • The best way for you to get magnesium is through food and the skin. Epsom salt baths a few times a week work like a charm. Easy peasy. There is a post on my blog about the benefits of Epsom salt on the body, might be worth checking out.
