Jumping jacks at 38 weeks?

My friend and I are due around about a week or two apart and she went to her Dr the other day due to contractions. The DR told her she was dilated to a 2 and not thinned out as much as she would like, So the DR told her to do Jumping jacks until her legs got tired then rest for 30 min and do it again?? I have read things online and everywhere I read say you should not be doing jumping jacks or anything to crazy to where you can fall this far into your pregnancy!  Im sure her DR knows more than I do but this just seems odd to me! Have any of you heard about doing jumping jacks to make your cervix thin out?

  • I am so anemic that I would do 2 jumping jacks and need a nap.  It seems like it would be similar to bouncing on an exercise ball which is a lot more gentle than jumping.  I wouldn't do it.

  • I've read about various activities such as galloping (yes...like a horse), dancing, bouncing your hips side to side, and bouncing on an exercise ball. Everything said that the baby might just need to be jiggled a little bit to encourage it to move further down which would in turn cause it's head to rub on the cervix more making it thin out. So I guess jumping jacks would have the same results. I'm not sure really how true this is. I guess it kind of makes sense, but it was all just online. It isn't anything a doctor told me.

I would be afraid of falling or dying of dehydration! walking up our stairs is enough for me!

  • I haven't been nearly as good about exercise this pregnancy, but last time I continued with Turbo Kickboxing and jogging all the way until the end.  Pretty much the same level in terms of impact and balance requirements.
