Does anyone here know how to obtain accurate data on the percentage of c-sections my OB performs annually? I have a friend who gave birth yesterday (section) and since we're part of the same practice, I'm now nervous my OB likes to push sections. TIA!
Re: Researching C-section rates for OB
Not yet, I have an appointment on Tuesday and I will ask then, but I would not trust any information that given to me verbally. I want facts from an overseeing medical organization.
If you don't trust your OB to be honest with you, I'd suggest you find a new OB or a MW.
It's not that I don't trust him. I'm just the type of person who is more skeptical and wants the most accurate information. I doubt the members of my OB practice would even know that information off the time of their heads. To me it's more reliable if it's coming from an outside source.
OP believe me, I understand being skeptical, but if you can't take something as straightforward as your OB's c/s rate at face value, I think you need to consider whether they are the right provider for you. Because when it really comes down to it, trust is an essential aspect of the doctor-patient relationship.
If they are natural birth friendly Dr.s they WILL know this information...because they would have been asked it a bunch of times.
I agree with the other responses- if you can't trust them to give you an accurate percentage, then they are not the care provider for you.
FWIW, I personally have not met an OB that I would trust with a normal birth (not high risk), so that is why I see a MW.
I think that it varies from provider to provider. OBs are not necessarily the devil. No matter who you choose you should research their stats.
this makes me feel better. I hope I get a similar response on Tuesday!
I hope so, too!
