Natural Birth

XP - So I'm making the switch

To a midwife!  I'm calling tomorrow and setting up the appointment...they are able to prescribe meds, do in office sonograms, and essentially act as an OB/GYN would for everything with the exception of big issues, and they will send you over to the appropriate docs in that case... I'm pretty excited!

Re: XP - So I'm making the switch

  • Congrats! I actually just recently had my medical records transferred to a birth center as well, so my first appointment w/ the midwife is on Tues. I am so excited, couldn't be happier! Just hope I don't have GD, otherwise I will have to go back to an OB. :(

  • I actually have not yet seen an OB yet for my pregnancy. At the naval hospital I go to you are seen by a midwife unless you are high risk. I love her!!

  • YAY! My DH & I LOVE our midwife and I switched from an OB to midwife at about 22-23 weeks. Were love the difference and am still able to have our LO in a hospital (due to a abnormally long umbillical cord and family history) for safety. But she actually sits down and answers all of our questions with no rush, love it!

  • Hi ladies - first time visiting this board and i'm just quite curious.  My first LO was with an OB and I had a very good experiance.  I'm wondering what the difference is between a Midwife and an OB?

  • Good for you! While some are more comfortable with an OB, it's great to see other mamas who are comfortable with midwives who see birth as a positve and natural experience.
