How to dispose of sandbox sand?

It's about 300 lbs..... Do you think the city would pick up our bin if we put it in a little at a time?  We used it for a Halloween decoration, and really have no way of storing it so need to get rid of it.

Re: How to dispose of sandbox sand?

  • I would offer it on freecycle and i bet someone will come take it off your hands! So this was about 6 bags of playsand that's not a super hhuge amount... Another option is just to spread it in the yard. Have any holes or low spots to fill Or just le the kids throw it.

  • Is it clean?  You could probably freecycle or craigslist it.  I sold a sandbox on Craigslist, and the woman 'wasn't sure about the sand', but when she came to see it, she saw how clean it was and was happy to take it.

People seem to take just about anything if it is cheap or free!

  • Yeah, I was going to suggest Craigslist too.  I see it on there all the time.   If it's free, people will probably take it.  You might have to list it more than once to find a taker, but I'd rather go through that small inconvenience than send it to the landfill.

  • If its still in the bags, you can craiglist it.  But if its out of the bag, why not sprinkle it around your yard?

We have HORRENDOUSLY hard clay in our rental yard.  So bad, we could only grow moss.

We sprinkled the sandboxes sand at the enf fo the first and second falls and was able to break down the clay so that we now have some better soil and an actual backyard of grass.
