Re: Quick click poll: Lindsey or Lindsay?

  • Let us say your last name is Baker.

I prefer the look of Lindsay Baker, over Lindsey Baker. But, when I see LindsAy, I say "LIND SAY" instead of "LIND SEE"

It depends on how you want to say it I guess. I like Lynsey, but that's probably far too "trendie"

    Hence this poll! Smile

I've run across your opinion before. I'm wondering just how common it is to look at LindsAy and pronounce it differently than LindsEy. I wonder if it's a regional thing?

When I see it written, I would definitely put more emphasis on the AY sound, over time it may wear off.

Perhaps it is regional, or maybe just something we're trained to notice due to how the English language is taught. We're usually taught to break bigger words into smaller recognizable ones at some point.

The SAY in Lindsay reminds me of the actually word 'say', so that's probably why I get that inclination.

This is my name, spelled exactly like that, Lynsey.

OP - I think either way to spell it is fine; just be prepared for some people to misspell it.

  • I might be biased since my name is Lindsey, but I have always preferred the EY spelling.

When I first met my DH and I told him how I spelled my name he said, "oh good, the correct way, so I don't have to call you Lind-say."

I think it's beautiful spelled that way.

  • I'm biased as my name is Lindsay - so I prefer to see it spelled that way. I have gotten the occasional "Lind-SAY" pronunciation throughout my life though which is kind of annoying.

I'm a Lindsay, but if memory serves Lindsey is considered feminine and Lindsay is masculine.

I prefer one of these two options.

  • My name is Lyndsey, and while I like my name now, I hated that growing up everyone spelled it wrong and nothing came personalized with my name, haha.  I personally prefer Lindsey, but either are fine as they are both more common.

    This.

I've never heard of someone pronounce Lindsay differently. Lind-SAY sounds so awkward to me.
