Every year for Christmas I buy dh something Chicago bears and a chocolate orange. I swear I heard that an orange in your stocking symbolizes good health
Every year my mom buys me pajamas. One year she didn't and I cried b/c it is something I look forward to every year. She also buys us Sarris candy. It is a local candy shop in Pittsburgh.
I want to start something like that for the kids other than an ornament
Re: Do you have any Christmas staples that you give or get?
We always get an ornament.
When my grandpa was alive, he used to always send me a can of black olives and (my favorite at the time) a bag of Werthers Originals. My dad's whole family loves olives and I loved them too and used to put them on my fingers, so I guess this was a common gift for my dad as a kid. It is kind of funny looking back now.
I get an ornament from my grandmother every year. I have one labeled from the year I was born. We have started the tradition with B as well.
I always get DH socks, one year I didn't and he was really sad. We always get PJ's that we open on Christmas eve.

We always get pj's on Christmas Eve. My DH, who grew up not celebrating Christmas, didn't get me pj's one year and I was so mad. He's hip to the tradition now.
My aunt bought me a Hallmark ornament when I was little and I wasn't a huge fan but I am now - my tree is filled! I make sure I get my neices and kiddos ornaments too.
we, well, my mom and myself- always gift ornaments to everyone and mom usually gets the family new games or puzzles from 'santa'
lotto tickets in stockings
semi-tradition- gag/funny gift:
depends on what's funny at the time, for instance the one year before x-mas a local GMC dealership dropped my fathers truck off the lift bending it in half, that year dad got a GMC hat i bought with a tag that said: To: dad From: local GMC dealership name.
and for awhile there my brother and i went back and forth trying to get each other the cheapest most useless gift we could find- you know 'something real nice' like Cousin Eddie says in Christmas Vacation- things like dollar store dresser valet and plastic piggy banks- just cheap sh!t.
