Pre-School and Daycare

When did you enroll your child?

DS will be 3 in December.  He has been at the same daycare since about 3 months old.  It's an in home daycare. Licensed for 12 kids.  We adore them.  About 1 yr ago, they moved to another location which has been problematic for a lot of parents.  Several of the kids that were originally there have been pulled due to location issues.  Currently, there are 12 kids but only half of them are DS's age and none of those are full time anymore.  Most of the kids who are full time are 2 and younger.  The kids in preschool are all 3 1/2- 4 yrs old and only go to the daycare 2 days/week now.

My concerns are.. he's not getting enough interaction with kids his own age.. he's not stimulated enough because of this.  Lately, he's been pretty bratty when I take him there and I think it's beacuse he's bored.

He's not yet fully potty trained so we're still working on that and he's not quite 3 yet but will be in 2 months.  I was planning to enroll him part time in preschool next enrollment after he's 3 and potty trained.  I was thinking of doing 2 days/week preschool and daycare through that facility and 3 days/week at his current daycare.

Does that make sense or should I have him preschool 3 days/week?  I'm not really sure!!

Re: When did you enroll your child?

  • I don't really think there is a right or wrong answer - every family is going to do what works for them.  For me, DH and I both work full time and my kids did a center based daycare full time.  At age 2 1/2 the kids move into the schools preschool program which runs until school age and they have a school age program for the kids that turn 5 but miss the school cut off and that program also does care for the kids that are in half day kindergarten and before and after care until grade 5.  I have a few friends who at around age 2 or 2 1/2 moved from full time home daycare to full time center based so that their kids were around more kids their own age and getting more of the educational stuff that you see in a preschool.
