This is funny because I had never heard of this name until last night when DH brought it up.
I think it is pretty and has a wonderful meaning-but NMS. It is almost....I don't want to say "ethnic" sounding but it is the best word I can think of to describe it 'ethnic'. (and by ethnic I don't mean any one particular ethnicity)
DH really loved the meaning of the name but I just couldn't get on board. But I do think it would be a great name for the right family!

I know what you mean, I associate it with people of color as well. Probably because I automatically think of Nia Long.
It was the name of my ESL co-teacher. I don't really care for it.
ETA: The Nia I know is white. Just wanted to add that since a couple of people said it sounded "ethnic."
