Can't donate multiples cord blood

I've been searching on the Internet for places to even donate and all the ones I spoke to can't take it from multiples.  The reasons given were that the volume is usually not enough and that it creates labeling problems (2 babies, 1 mom) so most places don't do it.

What a bummer.  I was really hoping to be able to make a difference for someone!

  • Yeah, I found that out on their website. :(

  • That's a shame. It's interesting because I banked both my girls' cord blood (even though it is the same) and they tested it for volume and said they had enough. Maybe when you donate you need more?

  • Yup, we weren't able to donate. Lame!
  • i don't really know much about it..but since i was an emergency..they didn't even ask about it until i was on the operating table..if i was planning on banking, i said no..and they said "we will donate it, is that okay?" i said yes please..

dunno if it was for just the hospital use, being a teaching hospital..i guess you can ask at the hospital if they donate?

  • I wanted to do the same thing, but was also told no. Volume is not really a problem. The issue is that if your children have different blood types, which all 3 of mine do, and the blood and the antigens mix it can cause problems and issues for a recipient.
