New to The Bump

2nd month TTC

I am not exactly new to the bump. I've posted a few times with questions on the TTC board but that's about it. I have (almost) 2 year old twin boys who were conceived with the help of clomid due to anovulatory cycles. I would show signs of ovulation but I don't think I ever released an egg. There are 4 sets of twins on my side of the family with the last being my great aunt but I'm sure the clomid helped me conceive the twins.

My DH and I are currently in our 2nd month of ttc. I'm on cd14 right now and so far, no signs of ovulation. I use the CBEFM and last month it started showing ovulation around cd 18 or 19. I had EWCM on cd14 but got AF on cd27.

I have an appointment with my doctor on Monday to possibly get clomid again but my family thinks I'm jumping the gun. I tried for a long time to conceive my twins and month after month I was let down and just can't go through that again. Anybody who has had infertility I think would agree and when you're stressed, you obviously aren't going to conceive either.

Anybody else in my boat?

Re: 2nd month TTC

  • I'm sorry you had such a rough time conceiving your LOs (they're adorable by the way). While it's true that major stress (e.g., death of a loved one, losing a job, etc.) can cause issues with ovulation, stress =/= infertility, infertility = stress.

I can certainly understand your frustration and worry about having the same issue this time around. I've never personally used the CBEFM but from what I've heard from other bumpies, they're pretty useless and a waste of money. You'd be much better off creating an account and charting through fertilityfriend for a month or two to see if you are in fact ovulating (by tracking your BBT).

The general rule of thumb is to see your doctor if your cycles are longer than 60 days but it sounds like your cycle length (so far) is pretty normal so I would try charting for a month or two to see if you are in fact ovulating before taking up with Clomid again. Also keep in mind Clomid has a limit on how many cycles you can do; I believe the lifetime is 6 cycles so you don't want to take it again unless you absolutely have to.

I don't know if you worked with an OB/GYN last time or a RE but if your Dr. does Rx Clomid for you again, please make sure he/she is monitoring you properly through ultrasound and bloodwork. OB/GYN's are notorious for just handing out Clomid and telling people to wait for a + OPK.

Good luck hon, I hope you're PG sooner rather than later.

    Not necessarily true.

We dealt with IF for 3 years before we adopted DD.

While I would see a dr sooner rather than later, I'd wait at least one more cycle to show a consistent pattern, then have the charting data to show your dr.
