Hi, Ladies. For those of you who have given your LOs avocado, how do you store and thaw it for feeding? Some websites are saying slice it and freeze. Some say puree it and freeze. WHich do you do and how do you thaw it? Do you feed it to your LO cold from the fridge?
We haven't done avocado yet but I've heard slicing it and freezing it is the best way to go. You don't get the build up of ice crystals that you would get if it was pureed and it's so easy to prep when you're ready to serve it...you just mash it up with some liquid.

We just started feeding avocado, but I read that storing it in slices cuts down on how brown it turns, so we went with that method. I did find it was easier to get the slices to not fall apart if I put the halves of the avocado in the freezer for a little while, then when they were firm I removed the skin and sliced. Not sure about thawing since we just started, but I imagine I'll just stick in the microwave for a few seconds - shouldn't take long with individual slices.
That's a good idea to harden the avocado a bit first before trying to slice it. I imagine it'll cut down on the slices sticking together in the freezer bag, as well. I was thinking a few seconds in the micro shouldn't hurt anything. Thanks!
We pureed ours an froze it. We thaw it in the microwave an she gets it warm.
Do you find that the avocado browns if you puree it first and then freeze it?
Someone recommended a few drops of lemon/ lime juice to stop the browning.
Yep, this will do it! Citric Acid cuts down on the oxidizing process that turns some fruits brown. Just a teeny bit while you're pureeing will keep fruit looking fresh. I used 1/4tsp of lemon juice when pureeing one avocado.
You can also buy concentrated citric acid at some kitchen/restaurant supply stores, and that would take literally a drop to do the same amount of fruit.
