Being sent to a new OB at 38 weeks!!!

Good morning mommas!

Yesterday I had another doctors appointment (I am being closely monitored for "threatening" pre-e) and my BP was high (150/95 and then 145/90) and still showing trace proteins.  I was sent to L&D triage for more testing (my 4th trip to L&D since 32 weeks).  My doctor is a family practice doctor who so far has been able to handle my pregnancy and has an OB who he consults with about my case on a regular basis and I have seen 1 time while in L&D for 24 hours last week.  My doctor no longer feels he can continue my care and feels I need to see the OB about induction.  Our little peanut had a MAJOR growth spurt in the last two weeks and is now estimated at 8lbs 14oz with a femar length of a 41 weeker (yes I know there is a margin for error but just 2 weeks ago he was estimated at 6lbs 6oz and a femar length of a 36 weeker).  I am nervous about this appointment with the OB.  I met him 1 time last week and spoke with him for all of 3 minutes and now tomorrow I have to talk to him about induction and a timeline.  I never imagined we would end up in this place!   I figured my doctor would be my doctor and see me through to delivery and now here we are at the 11th hour and getting a new doctor and talking induction and all that jazz.  I have read so many horror stories about induction and am honestly rather scared to be induced.  I was checked last week and was 1cm & 40% and when checked yesterday I was 1cm & 50% (so really no change) at all on that front and from things I have read induction on a woman who's body isn't ready can be a very difficult thing on momma and many times result in c-section.  I plan to talk to the new OB about all of this tomorrow but am hoping to hear from some BTDT mommas so that I am a little more educated before heading into this appointment.

  • It sounds like your doc just wants to make sure everything that can be done for the safety of you and your baby is being done. im sure the OB will take great care of you and if you do need a induction all will be fine. You hear horror stories about labor anyway it comes. Induction or not. Just let go and embrace what is happening to get your baby safely into the word. <3

  • I had to switch doctors at my last appointment (36 weeks), so I know how you're feeling! I was so scared and worried, but the new doctor (who I had never met before) turned out to be very nice. We haven't talked induction or any of that important stuff yet, but she was better than I thought she would be and now that I've met her I'm not as worried. I hope you have a similar situation where your new doctor is great and puts you at ease.
