Carter was born 10/18 and they found my PE 10/25. I have been on Heparin/Lovenox since then, and Coumadin since 10/26 (my INR yesterday was only 1.4). Today I tried going grocery shopping with DH. I got 3 aisles before I started feeling awful, and stopped walking with him after 5. I assume this is normal, but DH has to go back to work next week (out of FMLA time) and I am just wondering if I am going to need to arrange for extra help.
If anyone else has been through this, I would love to talk to you.
Re: Pulmonary Embolism?
I had a PE in 2009. They've done a bunch of genetic testing and the only thing they could tie it back to was maybe the birth control I was on at the time (nuvaring). I was out of work for 1 week and then back to regular life after that. They put me on coumadin for 6 months to get rid of the clots (i had multiple in both legs that migrated to both lungs) and to check my clotting factors. After 6 months they told me I didn't need any more blood thinners but if I were to ever have another clot I would need to be on blood thinners for the rest of me life.
Fast forward to 2011, for my first pregnancy (a blighted ovum) I was not on any blood thinners but they did tell me to take a baby aspirin daily (I think). For this pregnancy (ended in placental abruption) they put me on a therapeutic dose of lovenox (one shot in the tummy, once a day). The thought being that since the increased estrogen levels from the birth control resulted in the clots/PE that since pregnancy means increased estrogen that the lovenox would help keep my clotting levels normal.
Today I met with my OB/GYNs to discuss Sylvie's death and the treatment I'd been receiving. They both felt, and had also consulted with some specialists, that the lovenox was the appropriate treatment for my situation and did not lead to the abruption. (They blame that on bad luck and a bad implantation). So they recommended that I continue the lovenox for the next 6 weeks or until I get AF and if I want to TTC within the next 6 months then I should stay on the lovenox in the interim, thinking that I would continue on the lovenox for the next pregnancy as well.
If you have any more questions or concerns regarding your PE please let me know and I'd be happy to talk with you.
