Upstate NY Babies

Do you guys remember me complaining about DH's Xmas party?

Probably not. But, Ugh - every year his 40yo (wannabe 21yo) boss rents a limo bus and everyone needs to drink and bar hop until like 5am?? There's always drama and ugliness. They start at like 2pm for a late lunch / early dinner and it all goes downhill from there. I try to be "the good wife" and not complain but I always do. I just say a 12 hour Xmas party is long enough, nothing good happens after 2am, why don't you just come home then? i wake up 1000 times wondering what the hell is going on and if DH is home yet. I hate that night.

Anyway. THIS YEAR....they are FLYING to NYC for the day - 5:30am flight and midnight return flight. I'm annoyed and probably a bit jealous...but more annoyed.

  • I totally remember this from last year. I think it's absolutely crazy esp if I remember correctly that spouses and SO are not welcome. Not cool and I would be livid for crap like that to happen year after year.

  • Spouses are SO not welcome. Well HIS spouse is not welcome therefore the rest of us aren't either. That would definitely ruin his game.
  • Not only do I find that ridiculous, but it seems very risky. What type of company does he work for? There seems to be a lot of opportunity for disaster in this situation. But, maybe I am the wrong one to comment because DH works for GEICO and they aren't even allowed to have Christmas parties. DH as Managing Attorney for his office is allowed to take his staff to a lunch during work hours on the company card but no alcohol allowed. GEICO pretty much has a zero-fraternizing policy company-wide for bosses/employees.

  • I remember you talking about the Christmas party...totally ridiculous.  And even if I told myself that I would be a good sport and wouldn't b!tch about it, I would.  A trip to NYC would totally put me over the edge but I think mostly because I'd be jealous.

  • He works for a small law firm. They are good at what they do professionally...but there are no rules/regs for fraternization or codes of conduct.
  • Ya, I wouldn't like that either.  But on the one hand - at least this time you have an end in sight with the midnight return flight.  Oh, and I don't think you can be visibly drunk on a plane, so maybe the boss will be left behind haha.
  • Yeah I remember you mentioning that last year. Well, maybe in NYC they wont go too crazy since they'll be there early morning/afternoon and not out until 5am or so! With a midnight flight they'll have to be at the airport at a semi-decent hour so at least that's a plus. But I still wouldn't be happy about it.
  • I would not be happy about that.  At all.

I thought DH's Christmas party was annoying, but it is during work hours.  They set up video games for everyone to play online together, bring tons of food and drinks and hang out all. day. long.  So ridiculous.

DH would love that.  I wouldn't mind him playing video games and eating all day.  Bar hopping all afternoon into the wee hours I wouldn't like.  Flying to NYC and then back for the party I really wouldn't like.

  • Does your dh have to go?  Does he want to go?
