I'm a big Honda fan and have driven Civics for years (my first car was a Civic), but I hear that the current model has gotten bad reviews from Consumer Reports, etc.

Have you looked at the Ford's - my DH had a Focus and loved it.  We wanted something bigger once his commute changed and we moved up to the Fusion and just love it.

Not sure it's even in the right price range but my vote is a Nissan Altima.

Out of the ones you listed, you can't really go wrong with the resale of a Honda.

My dh commutes in a Nissan Sentra...very affordable and dependable (and cute).  We love it, for commuting purposes!
