At the 6 wks pp mark...

Were you pretty much given the "green light" to resume all of your normal activities such as exercise, lifting older children (if this applies), etc?

I keep telling myself "only a few more weeks" whenever I feel mom guilt for not being able to lift or carry my 2 y/o DDs, but realistically, is 6 the golden #? Or did it take longer (i.e. did you have to very gradually ease back into things)?

TIA

  • I started lifting my DS1 (who was 15 1/2 months but a very big boy for his age) at 1-1 1/2 wk pp. I had no choice since I was alone with both of them. I just bent down to lift him up if I had to carry him. I started driving at 2wk pp and walking the neighborhood at 2 1/2wks pp. I just listened to my body and if something didn't feel right I stopped doing it. I didn't full out do a workout until 6wks through. Just do small things at a time and just don't push yourself to hard. If soemthing hurts or doesn't feel right stop

  • Honestly, I was picking up my 2 year old at 2 weeks pp.  My doctor gave me an unofficial ok to start picking him up off of a bed or couch (just not off the floor).  He said he realized how unrealistic it was to tell the mom of a toddler not to pick up a 2 year old (although he did say absolutely not to pick him up from a crib, which was fine because DS was in a bed).  I did get the official release to resume all activities at my 6 week visit.

  • Kind of.  I started running again about 5 weeks pp.  It was terrible -- I was really, really slow.  By 6 weeks pp I could eek out about 3 miles in 30 minutes.  I thought I looked terrible, but I was getting back into most of my pp clothes and getting into a good/better exercise routine.  I'm addicted to running and more or less base all estimates of recovery/how things are going on how far and fast I can run.  It was about 8 weeks before I was running at my normal speeds.

  • Yep, at 6 weeks I was cleared for everything, no hold backs.

  • i just slowly eased back into it and didn't go from not lifting my ds to a ton. My dr just reminded me that the internal stitches are not healed for 12 weeks so don't over do it and listen to your body.
  • I say do what you're comfortable with.
