See Kai Run, Stride Rite, etc - Sizing

Diapers.com is having a shoe sale, and Olivia needs shoes.

We've tried on about every different type of shoe, and it seems like she wears a 2 length wise, but her chubby little feet are too fat on top. However, the size 3s are waaay too long. Story of her life.

Any of the "recomended" brangs fit chubby feet? Is there a certain type of shoe (ie. sandal, mary janes, tennis shoes - something that doesn't go over the top of her foot) I should be looking at? Or should I just buy her a size 3? If you had a chubber, what did you do?!

Re: See Kai Run, Stride Rite, etc - Sizing

  • See Kai Run always fit my son when he was little with chubby feet. The older kid Robeez also worked. I never had luck with Stride right but I do know they have a wide width.

  • Oh man, we had the same problem! My son has big feet and he was fat all over. Robeez worked the best for us because I could stretch the opening pretty wide and mangle his foot in there. Once he started walking, he thinned out everywhere, including his feet and now they're just big, not fat :)

I would also maybe try crocs, too.

  • That's good to know, thanks' y'all!

I guess my next question is ... where can I try these on new in Austin? We've been trying the used stores, but I'm giving up online and used. Apparently, we need to try on the specific shoe.

Shoe shopping always stresses me out. It's not different with my kid!

  • I loved See Kai Runs, round feet don't equal wide (imho). We could never get him into a stride right (until this year).

I suggest if you have time, run by nordstroms since they have stride rite and see kai runs and try them on before making your order.

Will do! Y'all are life savers. Cause shoe stress is NOT what I need!

  • I personally don't like the way Robeez fit or look. They always look kind of rough and crumply to me. I like shoes with a little more structure. I don't understand crib shoes though because I never felt the urge to try keep shoes on my kids unless absolutely needed. Like for walking outside or pictures. Any other time, socks or bare feet depending on the weather.

Emily started walking at 8 months though so shoes were more of a need than I remember with Abby. The "See Kai Run Kristine" were Emily's first shoes (available on the diapers.com website). I liked them because they were bare-foot soft, very flexible and and still protective. Damn cute too. If you look at Emily's foot toe on, they're round. She's also a pretty big baby so her first pair of shoes were size 12-18m (size 5) They fit well with socks and then come summer, booyah, they still fit without socks. The velcro on top runs the entire length of the strap so you can customize the fit as they grow or as needed for chubberalla feet. The toe area you can physically squeeze the shoe and see it makes a circle to fit the foot.

Locally, Sandy's shoes is an awesome resource for trying on lots of shoes and they know which ones fit which kinds of feet. Emily can't wear hardly any of Abby's shoes (or m_and_m's daughters hand me downs) because of fit. Then you can go online and order. Or if you're like me, you'll be too lazy to bother and just get the ones they have on your kids feet and call it a day. I'm not the kind of shopper who will go online to save $8. Plus, I like supporting local businesses when possible.

  • I would go to Sandy's. They sell all of these there and will size her for you!

If you're north, sandy's shoes by the walmart on anderson lane has them and they're super helpful (don't get the older guy with grey hair tho, he's no help at all)

ETA: i obviously didn't read previous posts :)
  • is there a 2.5 option?
  • I would definitely try them on.  I was determined to get Kate some See Kai Run shoes, but her feet were so fat that they were like little cubes.  The lady at the store literally could not get her feet in.  She's an extreme case though and See Kai Run shoes fit her fine now even though she still has fat (not wide) feet.

Her very first pair of shoes were those squeeky ones because the lady at the shoe store said they were the only ones that would go over her feet.  I don't think she was trying to screw with us either because they didn't even have them and I had to order them online through another store.
