Two Under 2

Joining the 2u1 club

I found out today that I am 16 weeks 1 day pregnant with LO number 2 (I thought I was 12 weeks 4 days).  So I will be having an April baby next year to go with my May baby from this year.  I am excited but nervous to have 2 11 months apart.  Any advice or help you can offer would be great.  I will take anything.

Re: Joining the 2u1 club

  • Congrats! It's not as hard as some people say. I really like it. Mine are 14 months apart, but I would've liked them even closer!

  • Welcome to the club!  My advice?  It's hard, but you won't know any different.  I honestly think just having two kids is hard not matter what the age difference.  One thing I do regret is that I was too miserable being pregnant to really enjoy/soak in my first son's first year.  So try to enjoy your time with LO1 instead of fretting over becoming 2U1.
  • First off congrats. Also hey you got almost 4 free weeks.

As for advice try not to plan too hard, think more in "looser" terms. Also when you get closer remember to relax, even if its laying on the floor in the middle of the toys.

When baby is here your goal for the first 3 months is to simply survive. You will be going through baby to toddler transitions and newborn neediness. If you find the house hasn't been cleaned for a week, whatever, as long as the babies are relatively happy and you're sane you did a good job.

Also try a little preparing for your DS. around 30 or so weeks buy a baby doll ( 15-20 inches like a 'real' babe) and hold it. You might not think it's getting through to your LO but my DD knew not to hit the baby, how to rub his back, and she had more patience with mommy needing to hold the baby than I would have expected.

  • We had a routine with dd1 for bedtime well before dd2 got here. Dd1 was able to put herself to sleep for naps and for the night. I don't know how I would have gotten through the first month if she wasn't able to do that. I spent lots of quality time with dd1 throughout the pregnancy. The first few weeks were crazy until we got a routine down for the morning. It is rough when they both wake from naps at the same time and are hungry. I keep lots of snacks on hand that the oldest can feed herself while I feed the baby. I make sure that the girls interact every day and dd1 is getting better about not hitting the baby. Dd1 also has a baby doll that she holds often while I am feeding dd2 and she pats her back to burp her when I burp the baby. I bathe the baby while the oldest is sleeping. I am trying to get the baby on a nap schedule, as close to her sister's nap schedule as possible.
