I had my first appt with an OB last week and went thru all of my stuff..she wants to do the normal blood work, and then maybe a clomid challenge. I didn't ask at the time what it was, but now I'm curious. Anyone know what this is about? I thought Clomid was to help women ovulate. According to my charts, I am ovulating..TIA, and sorry if this is a dumb ?
Patiently waiting for our 1st since 9/2010.
Dealing with MFI, good count, good motility, 3% morph-HSG all clear, all other test results came back normal, IUI is our next step
May 2012- Clomid 50mg + IUI = BFN
June- Cycle Break
July- Forced cycle break due to cysts
August- Femara, Trigger, IUI#2= ?

Clomid can help you not only ovulate, but ovulate more (in number and/or in quality) mature eggs.
I googled Clomid challenge and found this:
https://www.infertilityspecialist.com/female_infertility_tests_clomid_challenge.htm
The clomiphene citrate challenge test (CCCT) provides an additional assessment of ovarian reserve. It is performed by measuring the day 3 FSH and estradiol levels, the patient takes 100 mg of Clomid on cycle days 5-9, and her FSH is measured again on day 10. The test is abnormal if either the day 3 or day 10 FSH values are elevated or if the day 3 estradiol is greater than 80 pg/ml.Don't feel bad, I always feel so overwhelmed after appts. And sometimes depending on the nurse or doctor I always feel intimidated asking questions...
Good luck!

I did one of these. My understanding is that the test checks to see how your body responds to meds. I had day 3 bloodwork, took Clomid from days 5-9, and then had bloodwork done again on day 10.
This! I ovulate every single month on my own but the blood work doing without clomid vs. with clomid can help to show if your eggs are mature enough. If you look at a lot of the IVF ER fert report posts, you will see women mention they had like 12 eggs retrieved, 9 were mature, and then how many fertilized. Some eggs that are released through ovulation are not really mature enough for fertilization. Or at least that is my understanding of what E2 tests are for when you get it around cd10 or 12 (before ovulation). Like some of the IUI gals will have four follies above 16mm, but then their E2 levels will be low enough that the RE doesn't feel all four will be viable for implantation if they trigger, so there is less worry for HOM.
IUI#4 1/23/13 on 75iu x9 Follistim = BFP then chem preg m/c (Feb 2013)
IUI#5 BFN (April 2013)

I did the Clomid Challenge months ago.
My OB put me on 100mg and I went into have a u/s on CD13 to see how many mature follies. I eneded up having 5! She eneded up telling me and DH to not try and then put me on 50mgs. We already knew that I did O but Clomid just helps with creating more/ stronger follies. Good Luck.
I am about to start my first cycle of clomid and IUI and I clearly ovulate on my own according to temps, etc. My RE said it gives you more chances as it creates more follies. GL!
PGAL/PAL welcome
