Late Term and Child Loss

Tattoo?

So I really want to get a tattoo in memory of Annabelle but I am not really sure what to get or where to put it (on me).  I actually never even considered a tattoo before, but feel really strongly about getting one.  I was just wondering from others here (because I know some of you have already gotten one) what you used as a symbol and where on your body you put it.  I don't want it somewhere extremely revealing but I don't want it completely hidden either.  Any information/advice/suggestions would be appreciated...  Also, I don't even know ballpark figure how much tattoos go for.  I am thinking something on the smaller side.  How expensive are they (and I'm sure they really range)?

Re: Tattoo?

  • My tattoo for Logan was my 1st (and currently only) tattoo.  I didn't want his name because then I would feel guilty if I didn't put any of my other children's names on my body in the future, so I decided to get his footprints.  I "designed" my tattoo and the artist drew it up for me.  It turned out perfect.  I had it placed on my left ankle -- left for the side my heart is on, and my ankle to represent he walks everywhere with me.  I love it.  I plan on somehow incorporating my future living children with butterflies or something else beneach Logans (going onto my foot) to represent they're "big brother" watching over them.  This one cost $100 plus tip.  But my husband had just gotten Logan's name tattooed a few weeks earlier so the guy gave us a little bit of a deal.  My advice...shop around.  Make sure you look at all the tattoo artists work compared to prices.  You don't want to end up with a poorly done tat, especially since this one represents so much.  Good luck!

  • I got my tattoo this weekend. It is on my left wrist. One way it says "Faith" and upside down it says "Trust" (see below). My daughter's name was Faith, so that's why I wanted this one.  I also got her birth date below it. It was $70 plus $10 tip.

  • I have an appointment next weekend for my tattoo. I plan on getting Avery's foot print on my left foot in the same position as my foot. The left side because he is on the side with my heart, and the foot because he walks with me everywhere, and his foot on my foot because his tiny footprints made a huge imprint on my heart. I also plan on getting his name and date. I do plan on getting any future child's foot print placed right next to Avery's print (that way they can "walk" with their brother.) The artist asked about the meaning of the tattoo and she quoted me the minimum sitting charge for both myself and mom ($40). We both plan on tipping.

Good Luck! I hope you find the perfect tattoo and that it looks wonderful for both you and your angel. HUGS

  • I currently have Addyston's tiny footprints on my right foot along with angel wings on either side. The wings are colored pink.

I plan to get Michael's footprint on my left foot, but his feet were much larger than hers so I don't really know if they will both fit. If I can't get a matching tattoo with his then I plan to do just one of his feet with an angel's halo over it instead of the wings and probably color the halo (or the wings if they fit) blue.

  • I want one so bad! DH says no. He is afraid that our next children will see the tattoo and wonder why they don't have one. My response? I get one for them too. He is not into tatts - so that didn't go so well.

If I was creative enough to find something that symbolized Haleigh to me that wasn't her foot or hand print - then I would get it! Suggestions would be great!

  • I don't know how to PIP, but I have 2 tattoos, both of them for my son.  I can email pics if you pm me your email.

The first one is a honu turtle on my left foot.  His tail is a fancy q for Quincy.

My second tattoo is on the inside of my left wrist.  It is 4 forget me not flowers and the bible verse Isaiah 49: 15-16.  "I will never forget you, I have carved you on the palm of my hand."  Three of the flowers are blue for my 3 early miscarriages, and there is a big purple one at the top for Quincy.  There are also 6 leaves-I've been pregnant 6 times.

I plan on getting a rose on my right foot for my girls. DD1's middle name is Sharon and there is a story about the Rose of Sharon and DD2's middle name is Rose so it fits. We are 95% sure we aren't having anymore kids (definitely not biologically), but if we did adopt, I would get a tattoo that represented that child too.

Here is what it looks like, just a different design of course.

  • I haven't gotten mine yet, I want to make sure I find a really good artist since this has to be perfect as you all understand. I plan on getting a branch from a japanese cherry blossom. They represent the fragility of life. On the branch will hang a butterfly cocoon. A butterflies life cycle is this: Life= caterpiller, Death (or as I believe in my faith, sleep)= cocoon, and finally the resurrection = Butterfly. I will then add little caterpiller's that will represent my future living children when we are blessed with them.
  • I have two different tattoos for my losses, I have two daisies on the side of my lower back (the flower of the month for my due date) with the names of my twins. Recently I got 4 flowers on my upper arm to remember all my losses. I was a little nervous getting this one since it's my first very visable tattoo ( I have another one on my back I got for my 21st bday). Here are pics of both of mine

  • I have one for my son on my lower back.  I got it in a place that only I know about cuz sometimes I just don't wanna talk about my loss (I have one on my wrist for my DD, and I get asked about it a lot).  It's a sleeping angel with his name on top and his dates below.  It's probably the size of a plum.  I can't remember how much it was, but most places have a minimum amount, no matter how small.  I have one on my hip that's the size of quarter, and it was $50.  The one on my wrist is also fairly small, and it was $55.  Those just happened to be the min charge at those 2 places.  Good luck.  I love tattoos, especially memorial ones or ones that have a significant meaning.

  • I had put his footprints surrounded by angel wings on my left shoulderblade.  My DH did the same tattoo on his forarm, but added the wording, "makes us stronger" around it.  It cost us almost $100 a piece not including tip.
