Pumping at work - storage

I was wondering if it is safe to use one large bottle to collect all of the milk from my 3 sessions.  After the first session I will put it into the large bottle and refrigerate.  Then at the second session, can I add the freshly expressed milk into the already refridgerated bottle?  Or is this not a good idea since its warm?  Advice is appreciated!! Thank you!

  • You shouldn't combine room temperature milk with refrigerated milk. Once they are both chilled (or if they're both room temperature), then you can combine.

  • Not a good idea since it's warm. You have to mix cold milk with cold milk for storage.

I use 4 bottles for 3 pumping sessions. Start the day with 2 clean ones, mix milk into 1 and refrigerate. Then use the empty (but already used) bottle plus a clean one for the 2nd pump, combine and refrigerate. Repeat for the 3rd pumping session.

  • The most up to date literature says that you CAN mix different temperature milk. It just needs to be pumped within the same 24 hour period.
