We have been supplementing almost since day 1 for weight gain issues. At first she was tongue tied and couldn't latch so we started using a nipple shield and got her frenulum clipped but still no gain. So we started supplementing 1 oz after each feeding which led to a mild gain over 4 weeks, so then we upped it to 2 oz the past two weeks (12 oz a day) and have started to see great gains finally.
The problem is now she is refusing me entirely and will throw a fit until she gets the bottle. I know its a faster flow and thats what she wants but I am at a loss as to how to get her back to the breast.
We've been working with a LC the entire time and will hopefully meet with her today again. Any suggestions?
Re: DD prefers bottle...WTD?
I am in the same boat as you right now and have sworn myself off bottles for the time being and am using the supplementer to get him back on the breast. I'm using the Medela SNS but have heard the Lact-Aid is better. It is cumbersome to be tied to this thing and it's hard to go anywhere, but at least he is stimulating me while taking the formula. I also don't do a little bit of supplement each time but rather I supplement a full bottle twice a day.
I think my child's frustration at the breast is due to a slow flow but this is also tied in with supply issues with me so I am also pumping as much as I can (normally 5 - 10 mins after each feeding if I can, and a full pump session during DS's nap). I am also taking Motherlove goat's rue and More Milk Plus, lactation tea, flax seed, brewer's yeast, oatmeal every morning, and lot's of water. Oh, and I'm on domperidone. Everyday I hope and pray DS will be happy at the breast again and that my supply will eventually keep up with him. I totally feel your pain, it is very hard.
No its usually more like 8 or 9 but we dont supplement at night...the bottle wakes her up and its more of a hassle. DH just bought an SNS, we'll see how it goes.
Thx!
