Single Parents

Single = lost friendships?

Ever since my X and I broke up I feel like I've been ousted by my friends - mainly my mom friends. There were a big group of us that used to get together regularly for playdates and other events. We had a facebook group that we used to connect by posting dates/times of activities. Now that I'm single nobody responds to my posts and I keep seeing photos of everyone at get togethers they didn't invite me to. It sucks Sad  I'm single - not a leper.

I feel like this has become common place since I became single and that has made single life even harder. I've tried looking on Meetup but haven't found any groups for single parents in my area. How else do you meet single parents or other families that are accepting of single parents?

Re: Single = lost friendships?

  • I know that since my BF and I broke up, I've lost all of our mutual friends. Since they were my friends before we started dating, it's really hard. Add the fact that I'm 11 weeks pregnant, and I'm a sobbing mess.  IDKY people are like that.

     Church, if you're into that, is a great way place to meet people.

  • Due to my situation, a lot of our friends "sided" with me in the divorce. BUT I still lost some of those mom friends because I couldn't deal with the "DH didn't do XXX last night" complaints. So it was my choice. I got very "lucky" since I am part of a very large blended family with several divorces, kids outside of marriage, etc. Lets just say the women in my family haven't had the best luck with men (one of my cousin's had this really sweet guy, at least we thought he was sweet until she went for an US and he packed his stuff and left. No warning what-so-ever)... but I digress.

    I found the most accepting people to be at my church. If you're not into that, try playgroups at either your local YMCA or Gymboree. Another good thing is to just go to the park. Little kids tend to gravitate towards others, and people seem a little more accepting if you just happen to be in the same place at the same time. Also check the community boards here on the bump. Good Luck!
