March 2011 Moms

Is anyone's LO talking?

My LO makes noise all the time but nothing coherent. He says "dada dada" a lot, but since my husband is not always present, I don't consider that saying daddy with intention. He can crawl, stand, and cruise, so I guess he is more motor skill focused instead of on communication skills.

Re: Is anyone's LO talking?

  • My ds says mamma when he wants me, but other than that he just tries to mimic a lot of sounds but isn't quite there. He does babble a lot, and mixes many sounds together. He isn't crawling so I think a lot of his focus is on verbal and fine motor. I think you're right that they pick one or the other in skill sets and go with that for awhile.

  • She babbles a lot, but no discernible words. I don't think anyone is going to have an LO talking at 7/8 months. Although, mine does some sign language, so they'll get there.

Which signs?  My LO does something I think is more, but it is only when eating. He understands both milk and up because I can tell by the way he reacts.

  • He's not even full on babbling let alone talking! He does make muhmuhhmm sounds when he wants me though.

  • I am not certain.  DS seems to connect Mama with me, Dada with DH, and Lala with his sister (whose name starts with an L), but it could just be coincidence.  It isn't consistent, but when he gets whiny, it is almost always Mama, followed by gesturing towards me.  He also rarely uses Dada or Lala when they aren't present.  With the exception of the occasional time when he will crawl towards the playroom when sister is at preschool, saying Lala.

Then again he whispers things that I swear sound like sentences, but I know better.  It is a bit odd/freaky when he whispers something that sounds exactly like "I kiss you" in between kisses or "I get you" as he grabs at glasses. On any given day, I am 90% certain that he is just experimenting with sounds, 9% of me thinks/hopes he is just a mini genius, and 1% worries he is possessed by a ghost.

She makes a fist for bottle and waves her hands for all done. I'm trying to get her to do the "more" sign, but no luck.

  • E is always "talking". If she's not talking she's squealing--very loudly. She says "mama, dada, nanana, nienienie" and her newest is something that sounds an awful lot like "uh oh". She was vocal long before she was on the move.

this!  I swear he says things sometimes, but there's no way he means to. He's very chatty when he first wakes up (before I pick him up) and I love to just listen to it. Maybe it's like seeing things in the clouds?

Other than that he says mamama, abooo, hiiii and yaaaaa. Probably just babbling, but I think it's Mama, Boo (our dog), hi and yeah (like in response to a question, or when he's excited)

  • My LO hardly makes and noises, sometimes she shrieks and will copy us if we make he same sounds as her but its rare.  She moves a lot tho, so maybe she's just more focused on getting somewhere? I dunno.
