out for a bit...Should I pump?

Tuesday will be my first time leaving my LO for more than an hour. I will feed him right before I leave and then pump for his feeding while I am gone. So while I am out and about (I will be gone about 4 hours) will I need to pump? LO is sleeping 6 hours at night so by body can go that long without emptying. I just don't know what I should do! What do you do when you leave LO?

P.S. I am all ready getting sad about leaving him even just for a little bit. I am going to be a complete mess when I go back to work :(

Re: out for a bit...Should I pump?

  • I wouldn't pump if I was gone for 4 hours or less. I would pump as soon as I get home. Especially if you pumped the bottle the same day you are gone. Or I would feed lo when I got home if it was time to eat and then pump right after.

  • Unless you are having supply issues or this is going to be a regular outing I wouldn't worry about it. I never pumped other than for an occasional bottle and I have never had a problem.  If you get engorged you can always hand express a little to relieve any discomfort.
