Most Accurate Temp Reading

LO feels like she is burning up when I touch her forehead. I took an under the arm temp and it was 98.8, I also took her temp with the swipe accross the forehead kind and got the same reading. Should I do a rectal temp?

With a rectal you just put the tip of the thermometer in right? Shes is very irritable and wont stop crying, I have a hard time believing she doesnt have a temp.

  • I asked the Dr/ complained that rectal is hard to take on a fussing baby. (I'm so scared to hurt him when he's flailing around!!) and my pedi recommended the in-the-ear kind. A Braun I think? But he said it's very accurate, safe, and fast. I find it to be pretty accurate so far. He's only had a fever once, after his 6m shots.

The Dr also recommended to take his temp regularly to see what his "normal" is because all kids are different. Then if he's warm he said to take it in both ears to make sure it's the most accurate reading.  I've taken my own temp with it too and it's comfortable and accurate. (And only takes 3 seconds or something..)
