I am a 3 cup of coffee a day girl, but once I got my BFP I went down to 1 cup of half-calf a day - and I still feel guilty about this. I know with my last pregnancy, the thought of coffee made me gag at around 5 weeks and beyond, so I'm letting myself slide a little thinking I won't be drinking it at all shortly. Plus, I don't drink soda ever. Anyone else "cutting down" as opposed to "cutting out" right now?
Also...I'm trying to stay away from the choocolate - but, for the love of God, it's Halloween!!!
ps - I am so freakin' excited to be on this board. I thought I would only lurk...but I'm too excited. lol!
Re: Let's talk coffee/caffeine
Don't lurk! Post, post, post!
And I'm in your club- I've not gone cold turkey, I've cut back. I was a 3-4 cup coffee drinker a day, and cut in half to 2 cups. I have one in the AM when I wake, and a pick-me-up in the early afternoon (1pm ish) to keep me going until bed.
I had an appointment this past week with a nurse to confirm my pregnancy, and asked her.. she said up to 2 cups is what they recommend at her office. I've also researched online and saw the same info.
I don't have tons of chocolate, but I'm not cutting that out either. I don't think there's enough caffeine in it for me to freak over, y'know?

Hello.
I am a Diet Coke-aholic, and once in a while would drink coffee. I plan on cutting out coffee completely, which isn't a big deal to me at all. The Diet Coke is going to be the tough part...I was easily drinking 4 cans a day before, and plan on cutting down to 1, and eventually just switching to caffeine free.
Baby BOY is due May 23, 2014!
Hi and Welcome!
I switched to decaf coffee while TTC. But I don't think you should feel guilty about a cup or two!
And as for chocolate? I don't worry about that at all!
I am in the same boat. I drink 3-4 cups a day and if it's a long day at work I may have another in the afternoon. I went to decaf. I know there is still a trace of caffeine in it but it helps curb my need for it. I am gonna ask my dr. if the decaf is okay when I see him next week.
My addiction is so bad that I went through Starbuck's the other day and asked if they could make my yummy drinks decaf, and they said of course! This made me a very happy lady because the Salted Caramel Mocha is my new weakness.
Now, chocolate... That's another story...
The good news is that you're limiting your coffee.
It's ok in small doses, and that includes chocolate.
I don't drink too much coffee to begin with, but I do love coffee and chocolate....well, that's part of my nutritious diet.....;)

I weened myself down from 2+ cups a day to 1 cup before we even started trying to conceive. Now I'm down to 4-6ounces of weak coffee. I can't seem to go lower than that or I'm a zombie, but I think 4-6 ounces is okay so I'm not going to worry about it.
I do LOVE chocolate but so far I've managed to abstain despite someone bringing chocolate goodies into the office every day.
I have a wedding though next Saturday and I'm not sure I'll have enough willpower to abstain. Hopefully a 4ounce of coffee will get me through the day so I can indulge a little in the dessert viennese table (of course, I'm in the bridal party and have to wake up before 4am to get my hair done...o_O...that 4oz of coffee better be enough!).

I'm drinking coffee (I only drink 1 cup in the morning) but cutting out other things. I get terrible caffeine headaches if I don't have some and I'd rather have 1 cup of coffee than a coke in the afternoon. I know there is more caffeine in coffee but overall I feel that it's a better choice (since I take it was actual milk) than a can of Coke with all of that artificial stuff.

I'm eating deli meat unheated, too....

I'm having a really hard time weaning myself from caffeine too... I LOVE coffee! I tried to go without it one day several weeks ago and by 10am I had a SERIOUS headache. Now, I am doing good to have one cup in the morning and then decaf in the afternoon. The weekends are tough though because i love a couple of lazy cups in my pjs. I had no idea how coffee was such a part of my life!!!
I too eat lunch meat... unheated!! ***shhhhh*** ( I also had some tuna sashimi without thinking about it last week.. then felt really guilty afterwards. It just looked amazing and I popped it in my mouth!)
yep, i'm a coke drinker. i need one in the morning, and i usually have another or two later in the day. i'm trying to cut back to just 2.
and lunch meat, i could never give up. i love turkey!

200-300mg of caffeine a day is totally safe. More than that hasn't been proven to be that bad for you either. One study showed a slightly higher risk of m/c in women who had more than 1000mg a day.
I drink 1-2 cups of tea a day (~50mg each) a little chocolate here and there. Doctor said it is fine, just remember that the baby might have a little withdrawal.
i've switched to hot lemon zinger tea in the morning, or cold lemon ginger tea during the day, but have some caffeine here and there too.
a little, 300 mg, is ok.
