Babies: 6 - 9 Months

what do you feed your 7 month old?

I know this is probably a redundant post!! But what do you feed your 7 month old? DS has been on stage 2 Gerber for a while...and I have introduced our foods like mashed potatoes occasionally.  Should I be introducing other things, meat and more texture? And should it be our food vs. the baby gerber food? TIA

Re: what do you feed your 7 month old?

  • DS will be 7 months in two weeks.  He eats a pretty wide variety of things right now, simply because he is a holy terror if we don't share.  He is eating stage 2 foods from Gerber, Mum Mums, the Gerber lil' crunchies that look like smaller cheetos.  He also gets mashed sweet potatoes when we have it.  I've tried frozen watermelon and regular strawberries in his mesh feeder.  He loves all of it.  We tried giving him some chicken the other day and he wouldn't have it.

Wow! OK, I was wondering about those hand foods that melt in there mouth.  Thought it was more towards the 9 month mark.  DS loves just about anything, so I guess we'll start trying more & more. Thanks!!

  • I make a lot of DD's food, but as far as store-bought goes, she eats stage 2 foods. The pedi cleared her for meats, so she actually just started the meat mixtures -- not the plain meats, but chicken and apples, turkey and sweet potato, etc. I haven't had a chance to make my own meat purees yet, so I have been getting the Beech Nut jars.

She also has yogurt (I either get the YoBaby packs or a big tub of plain yogurt and mix in fruits for her), Mum-Mums, Puffs, Cheerios, and stuff like mashed potatoes and small bits of things that we eat. I also put frozen pieces of fruit in the mesh feeder for her, which she loves.

  • My daughter isn't 7 months yet but she eats...well, everything.  If we feed her puree's before our food is on the table she'll eat it, but as soon as she sees our food she wants that and nothing else.  Last night we had ravioli and I was very nervous but she did awesome!  She ate two pieces!  Today at costco she had every sample they offered...from beef and barely soup to potstickers.  While we were eating our lunch she munched on the cheese samples we had gathered while walking around.  She also loves puff and crunchie's.

  • WOW - you all seem so much more adventurous that I am. I think I'll start taking a note from your books. So far, everything that I have given my LO she's loved - but it's been simple things like carrots, bananas, avocado, parsnips, and apple sauce. I make almost everything. I do admit, I researched and use Mott's natural apple sauce instead of Gerber - same thing, better price. I felt like I was living on the edge today by letting LO try my homemade winter vegetable stew. Most of the veggies she's already had - but I only gave her the broth with little tiny bits of butternut squash.

I've been wanting to get more adventurous with her because I want to encourage her trying new things. So far I plan on giving her sweet potatoes this week and broccoli next week as our pedi has cleared her for all fruit and veggies.

Also, does anyone get put off by one of the Gerber puff's main ingredient being sugar? Just curious - my friend let me try giving a couple to LO - then I read the back and was concerned.

  • I was really concerned about the sugar content- i didn't understand why that was necessary.  i bought a brand at whole foods that has half the sugar.  tonight LO ate her thick puree/cereal mix right off the tray on her high chair with her fingers, she started puffs yesterday and now only wants to feed herself, so wer'e going to try tiny pieces of very soft veggies that she can pick up. we use the puffs SPARINGLY.  otherwise she eats the first foods and that's it. she started solids just a month ago and only eats about 1-2 oz each time, twice a day.
