I have a neice who's name is "Allie" and just Allie. It works for her. but I must say, i always think that her actual name should be Allison. but to each their own!
I know 5 girls named Allie, Ali, or Ally. None of them are named Allison. 3 of them are adults in their late 20's and 2 are teens. I think it's a fine name just as is, you don't have to use Allison. The name has been around forever, not just a s a nickname. It's perfectly fine in a work environment and also cute as a child, so if you love it, go for it! If you do happen to want a longer name have you considered Alessandra?

Absolutely! My sister's name is Katie. Not Katelyn, Katherine, etc. She's just Katie. My mom wanted that to be her name, so that's it. I'm not a big fan of naming your kid one thing and going by a nickname. I guess it works for when they're older (such as a Thomas being called Tommy as a child), but I think, name your kid what you want your kid to be called.
I completely understand what you mean. My first name is more of a nickname for a first name. Growing up, I always wished my parents had given me the full name because you can't really shorten my name.
Having said that, our top girl name choice is Josie (after my great grandmother) - not Josephine or Joselyn. I have debated this, but we have a long last name that ends in an -in sound.
Ultimately, you can name your child whatever you want. If you prefer Ally over Allison, then go for it.

Ally/Allie isn't something that would sound ridiculous on a grown woman, so I say go for it. H and I feel the same way about Evie. We love it, but dislike Evelyn and Evangeline.
Sure you can. But Allison is a great name, and using it gives your daughter the option later on to be Allison, or Allie, or Ally, or even Alice. If her name is simply Ally, there is no flexibility- but that might be what you want anyway.
I'm an Allison nn Allie, but my nn is reserved for special people! Only certain folks call me Allie, even though I love it.
I guess technically now I should be SecondBabyMomma
Re: Allison
of course you can! name your kid whatever you want
personally, i like ally/allie, but only as a nickname.
what about: alicia, alexandra, alessandra, or alissa.
I like Allison but as PP said you can name her Ally.
You can also do
Alessandra
Allina

Why not?
DH loves Allie. He suggested Alexandra for it though because our last name ends in -son.
