I know we use Similac Isomil and we get it at Sam's Club. It's about $30/can and they now last us 5-6 days. Sam's does take the Similac checks though so it is the cheapest right now.
The cost varies based on what formula you use, if you use premade or concentrate or powder, if you use coupons, where you shop and a bunch of other things.
We used the Similac powder. They just made the cans smaller, but the old cans were 25 oz. We went through about two cans a week of the formula. It was about $24 a can, although I sometimes got better deals.
We buy ours at BJ (wholesale club) and it's $33 a can. A can lasts us about 5 days... So about $130 a month? If you have a wholesale club around you I would go check it out. We pay $30 a year for memebership. But the amount of money we saved on formula, diapers and wipes is worth it!!
Another thing, if you think there is even a possibility that you will use formula, sign up now on the formula company websites for their mailing lists. They send out coupons for formula. Sign up for every brand. I traded with a friend because we used different brands.
I just bought formula today at Sam's club. We use the Similac Advanced and they sell at 34 oz. container for $ 27.82 each. We buy about 8 containers a month right now, we don't use it all, but come close. That is about $ 225 without tax a month. If you get Similac checks it really helps.

Re: Cost of formula?
We are on the hypoallergenic due to reflux/protein issues, which is slightly more expensive, but I also BF which cuts down on the amount.
With that, we spend about $700 per month on formula right now.

We also get Similac Advance, but from Costco at about the same price. We go through 6 cans per month, so we spend about $150 / month.
We tried to switch to Kirkland and it was saving us about $70 - 80 per month, but it made the girls so constipated that we had to switch back.
