Need Help Re-establishing supply after illness

Hi Ladies,

I need your advice of how to help re-establish my supply.  I have never had supply issues in the past but I am currently getting over bacterial tonsillitis, pink eye and the stomach flu.  I have been barely eating or drinking, since I couldn't keep anything down.  I am not 100% now, but trying to drink water as much as possible.  I normally can pump about 36 ounces a day.  Right now, I am lucky to pump 12.  Can I get my supply to return back to normal?  I have been trying to nurse DD, however, she is a big 5 month old (18 pounds) and loves her milk quickly.  I also have greatly dipped in my stash over the past few days.  Help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

Re: Need Help Re-establishing supply after illness

  • I had a dip in supply after I had a cold, however, I wasn't as sick as you. I drank lots of water, ate oatmeal for breakfast, fenugreek and pumped extra. My dd nurses when I'm home and I pump at work. I also took it easy and made sure I got plenty of sleep. It took a few days but my body recovered. I didn't use much from my stash while I was trying to recover my supply. I nursed her on demand to encourage my body to increase supply again. I'm not sure how that would work if you pump. Maybe do a power pump session or add a few extra sessions for a little bit.
