My biting problems are a little different. She started biting around 5 months (so I guess when her teething started up), and now she is 6 months with 2 bottom teeth (OUCH). Anytime I yell "Ow", she thinks it is the funniest thing and starts to giggle or laugh, then she will do it again!
I had a friend who gave me some advice and told me to stop nursing when she did that so she will learn that if she bites she doesn't get any more food. So I tried that, and it isn't working! She will scream if I cut off the food supply and put her in her crib. But she will still bite when I try it later, and she still thinks it is the funniest thing!
I have also noticed that with my child, if I use my stern mommy voice, or if I even raise my voice at her for whatever reason, she thinks it is funny and will laugh (I see lots of potential problems here in the future with discipline! Good thing I am great with consistency!), and she seems to respond better when I just talk to her using a normal voice. But it doesn't seem to help with nursing and the biting!
Does anybody have any suggestions? I think she is doing it on purpose because she likes to get a response out of mommy, and daddy thinks she doesn't know what she is doing and it is all in my head. What do you guys think?
Re: Biting problems - She thinks it's funny!
Babies are pretty smart and she's obviously making an association between biting/you saying OW/funniest thing ever. As you said, she likes to make you react so, even though I'm sure it hurts like he!l, try your hardest not to react in a panic.
If she thinks it's funny when you change your tone of voice to show that you mean business, always respond in a normal voice, but be sure that your words and actions speak volumes.
I don't know, I'm a FTM, so I am obviously speaking from inexperience, feel free to take it all with a grain of salt! I don't know what to suggest to make her stop biting. I'll be sure to check the responses though for when it happens to me!
