new to pumping and have a ?

Ok all, lurker here with a question. I just started pumping not doing great but that's not a biggy. I'm just trying to get a tad bit of a stash so when it comes time to wean I can try and get her on a sippy cup of some sort before I actually want to wean. Well anyways here's my question, can pumping mess up what she is getting, can it make an imbalance? I only pump about 4oz a day (I'm not trying too hard). But just tonight she had a weird almost green mucusy poop and it almost looked like a tinge of blood in it. Now this was about her 5th poop of the day and the only one that looked off. I never pumped with my other kids so totally new to me any help would be appreciated. Oh and I don't normally have milk but I did eat a bowl of cereal 2 days in a row think that could of done it? I just don't like milk so I don't actually drink it it just get the cereal wet.

Re: new to pumping and have a ?

  • Not so much that pumping would have anything to do with the color of her poop, but if you never drink milk and LO has green poop, it sounds like LO could have a dairy sensitivity.

As for pumping hurting your supply, your body will make adjustments to how much you pump a day and feed your LO. Your supply will be bigger the more you pump, not lower

  • Thank you, I was thinking it was the milk, but wanted to make sure I didn't mess things up by pumping all of a sudden. She seems fine other then what came out in the diaper she is all normal. Guess I will avoid milk.

  • green and mucus like poop is pretty normal. its the little bit of blood that could be worrisome. But if it never happened a second time its probably nothing to worry about. I asked my daughter's pediatrician about these things when she was around 2months old. Hope it helps.
