Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Have you ever stopped solids??

Have you ever stopped solids for a day? My LO is not as regular anymore with her BM's and she's doesn't seem to interested in eating solids the past couple of days. So have any of you mommies just skipped a day of feeding your LO solids?

  • Yes. My LO started solids at 6 months. Some days he was interested, and other days he was not.
  • Yes. In the beginning a few times when he didn't have a BM for a couple of days, and even sometimes now we skip a meal. Like tonight - we were out later than we expected and skipped DS's dinner.

  • i have skipped a lot, as i understand it, solids right now are simply to learn how to eat and to experience different tastes, so when time doesn't permit and we miss her solid meal i don't worry as she has breast milk feedings without any changes even with intro of solids.
  • I haven't, but I would if DS seemed constipated, sick, or just uninterested. Leaving out solids now isn't really a big deal since it's more for taste and texture than nutrition.

  • I skip them if we are out later than usual, if she is acting super cranky and tired, or if she is sick.  If she doesn't have a BM for a few days, I feed her prunes or oatmeal cereal to get things moving.  This works super well!

  • We had to this week.  DD had diarrhea for over a week, so the ped. told us to skip solids for a bit.
  • I stopped solids for a month...

  • Nope. We just added a few drops of Karo Syrup to each bottle until LO had a decent pooh. Once he did, he was usually fine. But sometimes he will strain and if it's a while for him to go, then we will add some more drops into bottles again. It works!

  • Constipation  is a common problem w/ young babies starting solids. Several common foods we start our lo's on contribute. Rice, bannana, and apples are big culprits!  When dd has problems I cut those out and give her oatmeal instead and peaches. Peaches allways work for her. With in 10 hours typically. I have also heard prunes or apple juice will work.

  • Oh all the time!!  With 3 little ones, ours days can be chaotic, and it just doesn't always work out.  DD does great and would be fine with having it as much as I can fit it in, but she's also fine without.  Today she had THE most massive poop I have EVER seen in any of my three kids, and it has to be because she's had prunes over the last few days.  So I'm totally backing off till I can recover from the grossness, ha!  I'm talking outfit ruined, poop oozing all down her legs, in her fingers and toes, all over the changing table, etc.  I'm traumatized.

  • We stopped for a week to give him a break. But let's face it, he's not really eating any solids to begin with. (refuses to)

  • Yes after we gave him cauliflower he had a major gas attack, curling up crying like a mad man and his tummy was hard as a rock. Needless to say cauliflower won't be making another appearance for a long time.

  • Thanks for all your input! I didn't give DD solids today and she still didn't have a good BM so I think I will not give her any tomorrow either and see what happens.

  • During the week, he gets 2 meals of solids every day. On the weekend, we get 1 maybe 2 meals in. I too agree with solids right now are just for learning so I'm not worried about it.
