I get these little spells all of the time where I feel like I'm gonna pass out. They mostly happen when I get hot, so I dress very lightly and try to avoid them, but they still happen. Here lately, though, they have been coming more frequently and without the heat issues.
I mean, sometimes, they start b/c I'm hot, but like today in the shower, I got really dizzy and had to sit down and turn the cold water on me, but when I got out, I put a cold towel around my neck and layed in bed with the ceiling fan on and still felt very dizzy for over 1/2 an hour. It got to the point where I was cold and had to cover up some and take the towel off, but the dizziness never went away...
They are getting SO much more frequent, like AT LEAST once a day, sometimes more. I know hot flashes are normal for this point in pregnancy, but should I be worried about how long they last and the frequency???
Re: Dizziness/Nearly Passing Out Is Getting Annoying!
This exactly. It sounds like you're lacking iron. There's no harm in getting yourself an over-the-counter supplement (people suggest Slow FE), and you should notice results pretty quickly.
This happens to me at least once a day. Always after I eat breakfast, and then it can happen again throughout the day for reasons I haven't been able to completely pin down. It's not fun, and I've talked to my OB about it, so I'm just trying to control the symptoms.
I don't have GD, and I'm not anemic. However, my blood pressure has been much lower on average than it was pre-pregnancy. I try to sit up, and stand up, slowly. I also try to stay well hydrated, but as someone who has been nauseous non-stop since 6 weeks along, that can get difficult. I also get relief sometimes by sitting down and leaning forward, or lying on my left side, almost on my stomach, which takes pressure off the vena cava.
The hot water in the shower could have caused your blood vessels to dilate, leading to a sudden drop in blood pressure.
This is happening to me as well - but it's due to shortness of breath. I just can't seem to breathe and it's making me dizzy. Doctor says to keep an eye on it but I'm not anemic, my iron levels are fine, my blood pressure is low, my sugars are all fine.. it's just that baby isn't leaving me much room to breathe..
Hope it gets better for you.. I'm still waiting for my relief when my LO drops.
I've told my OB since the beginning that I have these spells too, and still nothing has been done to help me. I can't even go shopping, or stand for more than 20 min. I used to be so active, glad that LO will be here soon and hopefully it will go away!
Same here. Mine were so bad that I was frequently almost passing out, and I got to the point where I was scared to drive anywhere. Turns out my iron was super low. Once I got on the supplements I felt a thousand times better.
