Flu Shot

Well... I went to get my flu shot today because the books I've been reading highly recommend it along with my doctor. But, they didn't have the flu shot without thimerosal in it (which they said is mercury or has mercury in it) so I'm back to the drawing board. They told me to try CVS or the health department because sometimes they get more varieties of the flu shot and might have it without the thimerosal in it. Anyone else having this issue?!

    I got the flu shot around the time I probably conceived. I also give the flu shots all the time (I'm a nurse), no one has ever asked about mercury or thimerosal and I give the shot to pregnant women as well. The shot itself is only about 1-2ml in the syringe, if there is mercury or thimerosal in it, it's probably such a small amount that it wouldn't matter. The flu shot is recommended for pregnant women so as long as you aren't allergic, I would just get it at whatever pharmacy or health department of your choice.

    When I spoke to my OB's office to make my first appointment, I asked about a flu shot since my office was giving them. They told me not to get it because they prefer to administer it themselves. They'll give it to me at my first appointment.

     

    Honestly, I'd rather have my OB do it because then I know it will be safe.

    Yeah... I think I'll wait and talk to my OB. When I talked to my regular doctor she said it wasn't safe to give it to me in the first trimester so I'm just really nervous. Thanks for the advice girls! I'll call my OB on Monday and see what they suggest.

    I got the flu shot at 8 weeks pregnant with my son.  It was actually the H1N1 shot during the 2009 outbreak.  It was through the health dept and they administered the thermasol free version.  If your OB doesn't have it then CVS, Walgreens, etc. does have the thermasol free version.  I just got mine yesterday.

    I am going to have my OB give me the flu shot when I go in for my first apt on 11/15... I just feel better having them do it.

    I'm so glad you posted this, I've been wondering about the same thing.  I've gotten a shot the last couple of years but hadn't yet this year & the day I was going to go get it from Walgreens I found out I was pregnant.  I haven't had a chance to call my doctor to ask if I should still get one or not.

    I don't ever recall having the flu shot.  I'm very hesitant to have it now. 

    I'll bring this up when I speak to my OBGYN at my next appt.
