Re: tips on how to do this...

  • Yeah - this was the WORST. The whole "sleep when the baby sleeps" doesn't really exist any more. I remember falling asleep for probably 2 minutes (though it felt like an hour) while the baby was sleeping and Evan was watching a cartoon, right after DH left for work...and feeling SO guilty.

So yes, the answer is coffee. And thinking about how it won't last forever.

  • AS you know, my DH went back to school for his MBA right when the baby #2 was born.  There were nights I think I got like 4 hours sleep, and DH was never available to help for literally a year.  I was BFIng, so nothing I could do about it.  Just do what you can - if the kids sleep at the same time, sleep too, that's all I could do.  My older DD dropped her nap entirely when baby #2 was born as well.
  • Coffee, and lots of it.  I know it's not the greatest for DD, but I drink 2-3 cups every morning, and sometimes another in the afternoon.
  • Yeep. I am also worried about this. I will just keep what PP said in mind....it won't last forever...

  • Oh yeah- I hear ya. To be honest- your body just adjusts. DH went back to work after a week and hasn't gotten up with the babies since. With the 2 of them there were nights when I don't even think I slept at all but you just get used to it. Like someone else said- I just keep reminding myself it won't last forever.

Yep.  I don't drink caffeine, even when I'm not BFing, and I'm not much of a napper.  I definitely feel worse when I get less sleep but not every night is bad so that helps, too!

  • I found once I just got pass the early morning tiredness, and had a cup of coffee, I was fine.  Also, while A was really small, I would nap with him on the couch, while E slept in the afternoon.  It worked out to be about an hour nap a day, and that was all I needed to recharge.
