WWYD

Advice pls ladies! I've had a MC and C/P in the last yr. I just got a BFP last night andDr doesn't want to do blood work. I reallylike my Dr but it sure would ease my mind to know my numbers are doubling.. So question is do you think this is normal will most dr only do it if I had multiple MC or does my Dr suck? I really like him other then this, but should i look for someone new? Thanks for any insight you may have!

Re: WWYD

  • It really depends on the doctor on whether or not they run your numbers.  When I had my miscarriage I saw another doc at my practice and when I asked what they would do when I got pregnant again she said nothing, however, when I had my follow up & annual with my doc she said she would do the bloodwork.  I wouldn't necessarily switch docs because of it.  I think I saw in your siggy you had a m/c.  Was it just 1 or many?  Some docs won't do bloodwork unless you've had 2 or more.  When you expressed your concerns to your doc what did he/she say?

  • I had a 1 m/c in April and a c/p in June. I guess this is normal practice, I don't want to overreact for nothing.... I left the Dr a message and front office girl called me back so I never got to talk to him.. Oh well I guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed until 8 weeks! : )

  • Yeah, it really is more common practice to not do the draws until you have more than 1 confirmed m/c.  It sucks to have to wait, but don't worry, I'm sure the next 4 weeks will fly by.  It seems like an eternity, but then you'll get to that appt and then the weeks just start going soooo fast.  I feel like I was only pregnant for seriously a month with my son!

  • The ob/gyn that I go to is actually an advanced Obgyn group.. They do fertility treatments and high risk pregnancies. It is standard that they do labs on everyone. This is my first pregnancy and I went in on Wednesday and again today to make sore hcg had doubled. I wouldnt necessarily switch doctors bc of not drawing levels. In fact, I was surprised when the RN told me to come in for betas when I called Wednesday morning since I'm not considered high risk (no heart problems, diabetes 'miscarriages etc). Every doctor is different.

  • I personally would find a doctor who would do it. Two losses should be taken seriously. Sure, lots of people have two losses and it was nothing more than bad luck and I'm sure that is what your doctor is thinking. But that isn't even the point...betas and progesterone levels can give you peace of mind. And they can even catch a problem with progesterone early on which is treatable! At the VERY least he needs to check your progesterone level to see if you need supplements.

     Good luck!
