Cloth Diapering

Do your babies actually fit into their clothes?

I am a newbie CD mama and even though I have a 2 month old baby boy, I have yet to use ANY of his cloth diapers because he was born at just 32 weeks 6 days. I'm currently awaiting my detergent to come in the mail because he just hit over 9 lb, so they might fit him now. Any-who, I was thinking.. Can babies still fit into their clothes with these huge dipes? I have Bumgenius 4.0's and his little shorts don't look as though they will fit over them at all. Anyone have problems with bottoms not fitting because of the dipes??

  • I never had any issue with her clothes.  Like, none.  She mostly lived in babylegs and onesies.  Even now I still don't have any issues.  She's teeny, though.
  • my LO is pretty much average (50th %tile). All his clothes fit. He's almost 6 months and wears some 3-6 and some 6-9.

  • I asked this question awhile back! I was having a issues with jeans and a few outfits. I bought a few diapers that are trimmer- Bright Star Baby (now peachy green) & Bottom Bumpers. So she wears those with certain outfits. But with my 2.5 yr old, her clothes fit fine! I think it gets better the older they get.

  • We use BGs as well and some of her leggings are a little snug. But everything else fits just fine.

  • I had a few issues with certain brands of pants and shorts for DS. :)

I think it depends more on the size of your lo than the cds.  My dd seems to have a long torso so her onesies get too small quickly.  After starting cloth they got too small sooner, but again I think it is all about body type.
. Same here. My DD seems to grow out of her onesies in height, and I don't think it'd be a huge difference with disposables. When I switched to CDs, she wouldn't fit in some jeans that fit before, but they were a little snug anyway. Everything else was fine. And sometimes I just don't button the onesies at home and show off her cute diapers!

  • My boys are chunky to begin with, so with the cloth, they don't fit into some jeans or shorts.  It gets better as they get bigger, though.  I prefer one piece outfits anyway.  We don't have problems with those and they look more comfortable in them.

This, although DD is an average, or slightly petite, kid.

  • I agree w/the PP that said it gets better as they get older. We had issues w/pants when DS was really tiny (as in NB and early 0-3 month size) and wearing prefolds w/covers. He also had some XS BG AIOs and everything fit fine over those (just like sposies). I think it probably does depend on the baby too. My DS was really skinny then but has always been (and still is) around the 50th percentile for weight and around 70th percentile for height.  Just buy as much knit/stretchy as you can, or do Baby Legs. This is all easier for those really little stages anyway since you'll be changing tons of diapers at this age anyway.

  • I haven't had any issues with onesies at all, some pants though are tricky to get around her fluffy butt, so I size up (which means they're a little long but no big deal).  Though today she's wearing 9 month black leggings from Carter's and they're tight on her waist, which has nothing to do with her dipe... she's just chubs :)

  • My son is just at or barely over 6 pounds now, and I'm using pre-folds and covers. I can still button his onsies, and his pants actually stay up now.

  • The only item of clothing that never fit over her diaper was a pair of NB shorts.  And they were super teeny.  Everything else fits just fine.
