Halloween Candy

Is it just me or did the prices on candy seem to sky rocket? We have hundreds of trick-or-treaters and I swore I spent twice as much on candy this year. Ugh. I have a little sticker shock from what I spent. I ended up getting ours at BJ's but it still seemed really expensive. Maybe I should become one of those extreme couponers, but I'd need more hours in the day.

Re: Halloween Candy

  • Yeah I definitely think it's more expensive this year. I can't believe you get so many trick or treaters! That must really add up, I would probably turn out my lights and act like I wasn't home! j/k   kinda.

Ha.  I work till 9 monday night, so I am missing all the trick or treaters.  Well, at least all the good ones, I'm sure some older teens will be around.  DH told me he is going to just be turning out the lights (after dd goes to bed) and not answering the door.  Which may be a good thing, bc I have already finished a whole bag of york peppermint patties.  Now, on to the nerds!

  • Yes, the prices went up!  And the sales were crappy up until last week!  I was getting all nervous because I get a lot of trick or treaters.  Thankfully, my trusty blogs didn't let me down in the candy deal scoop.  I got 6 bags of Nestle candy bars from Rite Aid for $6, and another 3 bags of Hershey's chocolate bars from Price Chopper for $4.  Then I have a giant bag of candy that the kids collected from a parade last month, it is just fun for them to collect it, and a jar of candy that Brianna won on The Pumpkin Train Ride for guessing the exact number of pieces in the jar, 128 to be exact.  Minus a few because we shared with all the kids sitting around us.
  • Oh, and I also save by going with some non-candy treats.  I bought a ton of Halloween box stickers and tattoos from Walmart last year for something like a quarter for a 20 piece bag, I get the little Holloween sticker booklets from Walgreens with they have the 3/$1 coupon.  The booklets have 7 pages, I take them apart and it makes 21 treats for $1.  Pencils from last years clearance, can't remember what I paid but I think under 5cent each.  I just stick them in my Halloween decorations each year, you would be surprised how many little kids pick these over candy.  Then I also go to the dollar store and put the glow bracelets, 10/$1 I think.  Makes my treat bowl glow for a cool effect!

    Yes

I buy the cheap non-candy clearanced halloween stuff too.  DD loves them and would pick that over candy too.

  • DH and I have emptied like 3 bags of Halloween candy so far...we should get stickers next.
  • its always expensive. I always plan on spending about $50 on halloween candy. I only spent like $44 this year (700 pieces of "decent" candy).. and I could have gotten it a little cheaper if i could find my receipt so I could get it price adjusted at Target what I bought not on sale (like $41). I don't think it went up from last year, at least not at Target.

  • Wow, our neighborhood does not get too busy, so we only buy like 2 bags.  I wish we got more trick or treaters

  • I haven't bought any yet because I know I will eat it all

I did pick up 100 spider rings, plus we have some pencils & stickers left over from last year. One year I gave out mini playdoughs & those were a HUGE hit, but I haven't seen any good sales on them this year.

  • I will get into the candy before hand if I don't buy it a couple days before. My will power only goes so far:) Oh and we ran out of candy last year, turned out the lights and we still had kids knocking on the door and ringing the doorbell. It's the only subdivsion in our town and I think everyone just brings their kids there to make it easier. My dad usually comes and dresses up and sits in the garage handing out candy. We bought the same amount as last year, just seemed like I spent twice as much.

I love the toy/sticker ideas. I pick up some of those. Thanks!!

  • I've already bought my second set of Halloween candy...sadly I'm the one who's eated the majority of the first batch.  Next year I will resist buying early to save money.  LOL
